The Municipality of North Grenville provides make clean, safe drinking water within Kemptville and to designated subdivisions by delivering approximately i,800 cubic meters of water a twenty-four hour period (395,933 gallons/solar day) to approximately 4,000 customers and local industries.

Standards for drinking water quality are set and enforced past the Province through the Ontario Drinking H2o Systems regulation  and the Safe Drinking Water Act .

The North Grenville drinking water system consists of four separate groundwater wells and a booster pumping station located in the urban core (Kemptville).  H2o is treated at the wellheads with sodium hypochlorite (disinfection) earlier information technology enters the distribution arrangement. Each disinfection system consists of two sodium hypochlorite metering pumps with automatic emergency switch-over, chlorine analyzer with information link, in-line turbidity analyzer and a chemic storage tank with spill containment. The pump stations also have automatic high elevator pump lockouts to prevent untreated water from entering the distribution organisation.

The system supplies h2o and services to approximately 5500 users. Each well has an on-site reservoir. The total reservoir chapters of all 4 wells and the booster pumping station is 4579 g³ (1007239 imperial gallons). The Municipal water system currently produces approximately ane,800 m³/day or 395,944 regal gallons per day (gpd).

The operation and control of the water organization is monitored by licensed operators and SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition Organization). The SCADA system monitors the water supply 24 hours a 24-hour interval 7 days a week.

The distribution system consists of approximately 45 kilometers of various size (100mm, 150mm, 200mm and 300 mm diameter) h2o mains. The distribution organization is upgraded and expanded as necessary. The organisation is looped and so as to minimize service disruptions due to emergencies and maintenance.

Key Initiatives

Water Main Flushing Plan  – Each year, the water mains are flushed to remove sediment and maintain high quality drinking water. Residents will be advised when water primary flushing is due to occur (every spring and fall).

Backflow Prevention Program – Backflow is the undesired reversal of water flow confronting normal direction.  Backflow can occur equally a result of back pressure which is when the pressure level in a private water system, such as a house, is greater than the pressure in the Municipal arrangement.  It can also occur as a consequence of back siphonage which is when there are dips in pressure level in the Municipal system (i.e. a water main intermission).  The Backflow Prevention Program outlined in   requires all h2o connections to be outfitted with a backflow preventer in social club to ensure the protection of the drinking h2o supply.

Governance in the Municipality uses a Committee of the Whole/Council structure in which all the members of Council meet twice a month as Committee of the Whole and in one case a month as Council.

Committee of the Whole meeting are intended to be a less formal forum for discussion and analysis of issues. Committee of the Whole does not take the say-so to qualify final actions or decisions; instead information technology reviews and gathers data and formulates a recommendation which is forwarded to Quango for a decision.

In accordance with the Municipal Act and the Municipality of Due north Grenville Property Standards By-Police force, the Holding Standards Commission rules upon appeals of property standards orders.

The appeals may consider whether orders were in accord with provisions under the Property Standards By-Law, if remedial action proposed is reasonable or the Holding Standards Committee may make decisions regarding the length of fourth dimension cosmetic activity may have.

The Parks & Recreation Section is responsible for overseeing the recreation facilities, programs and leisure services for residents and visitors.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the senior appointed official who provides organizational leadership to the Municipal staff and chairs the Senior Management Team. This position is responsible to Council for administration and coordination of the delivery of services to  residents and businesses in a way that ensures the efficient utilization of the corporation'southward human, financial and physical resources and is consistent with the service standards canonical within the almanac budgets or business organization plans.

This position acts as the principle advisor to Council in the development of public policy, including ensuring that Council is provided with all relevant information necessary to make informed decisions. The CAO is also responsible for developing collaborative relationships within the community, with other Municipalities and all levels of government.

The Public Works department is responsible to provide some of the basic services that affect the daily lives of those who alive and work in Due north Grenville. The department is responsible for many of the things we accept for granted on a daily basis: clean water, performance sewers, safe roads, garbage and recycling collection effective drainage and all the infrastructure associated with each service.

The Director of Public Works is Karen Dunlop, who has 20 years of municipal experience with N Grenville and the onetime Town of Kemptville. She oversees xxx employees and an annual budget of approximately $4 one thousand thousand.

Garbage & Recycling (Waste Management)

The Waste product Management Division is responsible for the constructive and efficient management of garbage, recycling and hazardous waste matter within North Grenville. As part of this try, the division operates a transfer station near Oxford Mills, has contracts with private companies for curbside garbage and recycling collection and works with a diverseness of public and private partners to recycle, compost or reuse as much material as possible.

Roads

These activities are carried out by employees from vehicle depots in Kemptville and Oxford Mills. The armada consists of 5 large trucks, three graders, a backhoe, a loader, three 4x4 snowplows, 2 sidewalk machines and one pick-up truck for patrolling and maintenance work. Roadside grass cutting is done with a leased tractor and municipally-endemic mower.

Water & Wastewater

The Water & Wastewater sectionalization is responsible for the provision of clean and rubber drinking water and the treatment of wastewater for those living and working within Kemptville and designated subdivisions. According to Provincial legislation, the costs for the provision of h2o and wastewater must be paid for by the users of the services then whatsoever house or business organisation continued to the arrangement will receive a bill every 2 months.

The Finance department is responsible for long-term financial planning, annual budget development, investment management, full general accounting, treasury and cash management and all statutory financial report. Municipal Budget

Financial Reports

The Finance department is responsible to ensure compliance with a variety of legislated reporting requirements. Some of the required reports include the Nugget Direction Plan, annual Financial Information Returns, annual Financial Statements and audits. All of these reports as well as additional documentation which may be of interest to tax payers are bachelor to the public in the Documents Library.

Planning Division

The Planning segmentation is responsible for all aspects of country use planning including land use policies and development application reviews and approvals.  Some of the common issues the division addresses are Official Plans, Zoning Past-Laws, severances, subdivision developments, small-scale variances and site plan control.

The Planning division is also responsible for heritage in North Grenville and provides support to the Heritage Advisory Commission.  The division maintains and monitors an inventory of over ane,000 heritage properties in the Municipality, which could be threatened by demolition or development.  Some of the other projects which the division has been actively involved with include the cosmos of Walking Tours as well as the research and evolution of manufactures on various aspects of the community's history.
